Climate Finance Series: Insurance Roundtable

Fall 2015

As part of its Climate Finance Series of meetings, the GRC, along with the UN-Sponsored AR!SE initiative and PwC, convened a gathering of 70+ representatives of the insurance industry, city and state government, property owners, climate data modeling experts, consulting organizations, and members of the GRC working groups.

Together the assembled explored how to align insurance industry practices with investments in building resilience at the parcel, district and city scales. Key findings included: the need to address building codes; the importance of working on infrastructure as well as individual buildings; the potential opportunity to stimulate resilience investments with present-valued insurance savings; new engineering-based insurance approaches; and emerging standards and best practices in resilience.
