GRC Member Jeremy Grantham Honored for Climate Change Activism

It was announced in the Boston Globe recently that Investor and GRC Member, Jeremy Grantham was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire as a ceremony officiated by Prince William at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.

Grantham is a founder of Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co., or GMO, a hedge fund manager. His Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment is one of this city’s largest nonprofit funds, with $465 million in assets, according to its latest public tax filing, in November 2015. It gave $19.4 million to charities last year, to such groups as the Sierra Club Foundation in San Francisco, the Environmental Defense Fund in Washington D.C., and Imperial College London, which established the Grantham Institute in 2008, which studies climate change.

In a statement on the Imperial College website in June announcing the award, Grantham said, “Simply put, climate change is the most important problem we face in the long-term. If we fail in this, everything else we achieve will be for nothing.”

We are very proud to have such esteemed membership on the Green Ribbon Commission, championing the fight for climate mitigation here in Boston.
